Talking to Horsetail
People are scathing,
they don't like how you amass
on the riverbank,
they don’t know where you come from,
speak openly about banishment,
how to apply poison.
Once, I tried to haul you
out of your realm. I felt
your muscles tense
as though you took umbrage.
Why did you hold back?
Do you hear through your old tubes
what they’re saying: death
to the whorls of all living greens.
If we pull through, please stay
on my plot. Teach me
your arrangement of nodes.
Equisetum (Horsetail) - prolific as forests 350 million years ago.
John Napier noticed how the spacing between horsetail stem nodes decreases as you get closer to the top, and used it as the basis for inventing logarithms in 1614.
